Sendhav or Rock Salt is an exceptional edible salt, commonly used in Indian cuisines.
In Ayurvedic terms, sendhav is said to have a slight madhur ras or taste, and not ooshna or heat- causing unlike the other types of salts. It improves appetite, promotes digestion, reduces flatulence and gas formation, and adds taste to the food. It helps reduce the three doshas and does not increase heat. Therefore it is useful to have this salt in high blood pressure patients without affecting their BP figures, unlike the common salt. It is useful for eye disorders.
Sendhav is an exceptional salt among edible salts and considered unique in all aspects. Since it absorbs moisture and increases water content in the system, salt consumption is discouraged in diseases with swelling, oedema, and symptoms of water retention.
