What are the Effects of Time according to Ayurveda ?

Time element or Kaal is treated by Ayurved and Indian sciences in general with reverence. Effects of time are unstoppable. Modern science and technology can marginally reduce or slow down the effects of time but cannot eliminate them. There are certain processes that are influenced by time. Ripening of crops, duration of pregnancy, process of ageing are still virtues in control of time.

Food, as we have learnt to understand in these hectic times has been under strong influence of time. Ayurveda prescribes fresh food consumption. There has been no mention in the texts to suggest cold temperatures or refrigeration as a mode to counter deterioration caused by time.

As time passes, the vata in the system increases. With time we see progressive ageing. Similarly food that is 2-3 months old stale food raises vat levels in it. This, quite naturally increases the vat of the consumer, thereby speeding up the ageing process.
Here lies one of the most important secrets of our parents and their generation, appearing still young and energetic.
It’s time we opt for freshly cooked food.
