What is the importance of Ghee or Clarified Butter according to Ayurveda?

Ghrutam or ghee is widely known as an essential food item. Ghee is found only in India. Back in the west, it’s called clarified butter which does not  reflect its own identity.

Ghee is a Rasayan – A Tonic that Improves Agni Digestion. It is beneficial to the eyes, and is Vishaghna – विषघ्न – neutralizes effects of poison or reaction of toxins. Ghee reduces vat and pitta, it improves countenance, intelligence, memory, tone and quality of voice and overall strength of the body.

It’s one of the best medicines for any type of fever, abdominal pain, gases, and healing wounds. It is useful in herpes, skin and blood related disorders. Ghee is a tonic for the brain and useful for brain disorders and psychological  disorders like hysteria. It helps to heal wounds very fast and so in historical times, there is mention of use of ghee on the battlefields.
