Ayurveda is a science that has evolved over the last five thousand years. Like all other Indian sciences of India, Ayurveda has a rich heritage and existed before any documented medical science. The Indian civilization has seen unparallel prominence and respect all over the world in the olden times. It was shared with people of other lands who were interested in learning and thereby
enriching it further with their own individual prowess.
Ayurvedic interpretation needs to be done on the basis of Ayurvedic fundamentals alone. The modern medical science tends to diagnose a certain patient with a disease that the Ayurvedic fraternity is often compelled to follow. However, the fundamentals of Ayurveda and its way of interpretation of symptoms vary, almost always, and the treatment never follows the modern scientific outlook. This difference in interpretation leads to disagreements and chaos. However, the outcome of the treatment in spite of these differences is similar.
The most recent example of this disagreement was seen during the Covid 19 pandemic in India. The difference in approach to the disease was such that there could not be any minimal agreement for a common approach. Moreover, practitioners did not have enough statistical data to present the Ayurvedic point of view in front of the world. But at the personal level and private practice of
Vaidyas, there was ample number of cases of complete recovery and no relapse, with and without vaccination.
One of the primary differences lies in the modern approach for a search of an organism as a cause of any disease. Ayurveda suggests that the patient’s body undergoes changes that invite the organisms to thrive in that patient and cause a certain disease.
Ayurveda perspective
Ayurveda practitioners do take guidelines from the modern pathology and other investigative reports, but their interpretation is strictly done on Ayurvedic fundamentals. Therefore, the analysis of the pathology remains within the ambit of Ayurveda principles.
Therefore, the scientific fraternity needs to allow and thrive on their respective turfs and provide inputs for mutual progress in the future without mixing the two sciences. Furthermore, the modern medicine researchers need to learn the Ayurvedic approach and pathology that might help them to understand the pathogenesis better and how best to address it without disturbing the tridosha and sapta dhatu levels.
